EVENT: AD Launch of Special Issue: 'BRAZIL: Restructuring the Urban'

John McAslan + Partners are proud to have orchestrated the AD Launch of the Special Issue 'Brazil: Restructuring the Urban'.

The event held at our William Road Gallery with key speakers including: Hattie Hartman (editor), Thomas Deckker (Contributor) and Circe Monteiro (Contributor).

Brasília today lies at the heart of a thriving metropolitan region, the Distrito Federal (Federal District): a region of 5,800 square kilometres (2,240 square miles) in the central plateau of Brazil, 1,000 kilometres (620 miles) inland from the former capital, Rio de Janeiro. Since its origin in the 1950s, it has proved to be a pragmatic and successful response to the challenges of urban development.

Thomas Deckker, Senior Architect at our Practice presented us with an insight into the reality and complexity of the city's design and its development. Contrary to public perception, Brasília falls a long way short of being 'a unified city', though it is one that has prospered with a growing population and stronger economy than other Brazilian cities.

The exhibition of Joana Franca's photographs of Brazil will continue until the end of the month at our William Road Gallery space.
