John McAslan + Partners has appointed Robert Torday as Director of Marketing & Communications, effective from 1 February. Robert will have a broad remit, covering new business development, media relations and digital communication, as well as exhibition and publication programmes. Robert will be focusing initially on the practice's key projects - such as their suite of cultural, education, commercial and mixed-use projects under construction in Doha as part of the redevelopment of the city centre by Msheireb Properties, a number of new projects underway in Moscow and St Petersburg, the Olympic Energy Centres for the 2012 London Olympics and the redevelopment of King's Cross Station, which opens this March.
Robert's most recent role was Marketing Director at BFLS. He was previously Associate Director at ING Media where he set up a division in 2005 specialising in the built environment - clients included the Homes & Communities Agency, economic development company Hull Forward and leading architectural practices including Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, John McAslan + Partners, Rafael Viñoly Architects, Schmidt Hammer Lassen, Eric Parry Architects, Bennetts Associates and Gustafson Porter.
From 1999-2005 Robert worked as Head of Communications at the Richard Rogers Partnership (now Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners), advising on the launch of the Urban Task Force Report 'Towards an Urban Renaissance', promoting the opening of the Millennium
Robert has written articles and reviews for the AJ, RIBA Journal, ICON and the Architects' Newspaper (USA) and is an affiliate member of the RIBA.
