Set in a landscape of wildflower meadows, JMP’s design for the new archaeological research facility for the British Museum (BM_ARC) is located adjacent to the University of Reading’s Thames Valley Science Park in Shinfield, Berkshire. The 15,500m² state-of-the-art facility provides space to study, share and conserve objects and works of art from the internationally renowned British Museum’s research collection, specifically sculptures, mosaics and historic casts. The new development is an active and integral part of the British Museum, with a strong focus on global research. Study rooms provide university students, academics, school groups and members of the public with enhanced access to the collection. A dedicated hub facilitates loans from the Museum’s research collection directly to local, national and international venues. image ©Allan Pollok-Morris #britishmuseum #museums #archaeologicalmuseum #archaeologicalresearch #artcollections #johnmcaslanpartners

This year's RIBA Stirling Prize 2024 ceremony is at the Roundhouse, London, to celebrate the best of UK architecture. This renowned Grade II* listed steam engine turntable structure fell into disrepair in the late 20th century. John McAslan + Partners’ multiple award-winning scheme repaired the historic fabric, transformed the central space into a modern, flexible auditorium, created practice studios for local youngsters, and added a wraparound extension. The Roundhouse has since become one of London’s most dynamic international performance venues, welcoming millions of patrons since its transformation in 2006.

For the newly-built Waterloo Station, Sydney, John McAslan + Partners collaborated with local artists to incorporate the area's Indigenous identity into the station's design, which is highlighted through architectural details, decorative elements and artworks within the station. There are three wall-mounted sculptures at Waterloo, collectively titled 'Footprints on Gadigal Nura', all developed by Indigenous artist Nicole Monks with the continuing Custodians and Aboriginal community who live, work and visit the local area. The word 'Nura' refers to Country in the book 'The Sydney Language' by Jakelin Troy. One of the artworks shown here is embedded on the escalator walls, where hundreds of community members' footprints, cast in electroplated aluminium, form a sparkling map. It was created in collaboration with the local community through the Aboriginal Community Workshop. image: ©Peter Bennetts

The much-anticipated Sydney Metro City line is now open! This is a major milestone for Sydney Metro and it represents the most transformational change to the city since the opening of the Harbour Bridge in 1932. In fact, Sydney Metro is Australia’s largest infrastructure project to date with two stations designed by John McAslan + Partners. The practice’s transformation at the historic Sydney Central Station is expected to receive nearly half-a-million travellers per day. John McAslan + Partners also designed Waterloo Station that is now serving one of Australia’s fastest growing neighbourhoods. Both stations are representative of an approach to transport architecture that seeks to emphasise clarity and calm with a unifying vision focussed on elevating the day-to-day passenger experience.
