Cuenca Tram

John McAslan + Partners and Mott MacDonald have been advising the historic city of Cuenca in Ecuador on how best to develop the city's tram project.

A World Heritage site with 16th-century origins, Cuenca is one of South America's most advanced cities in terms of its public transport network, a key element of which is the proposed tram which will provide a critical transport route running east-west through the city.

In a parallel project, JMP is developing proposals for Cuenca's historic market square, the Plaza San Francisco, which will see its market function enhanced and its intrusive vehicular network rerouted to create a pedestrian environment.
