Stanislavsky Factory

The Stanislavsky Factory complex, with buildings from the late 19th to mid-20th centuries, was the practice’s first completed project in Moscow, and won the first RIBA Award for a scheme by a UK architect in Russia. It also set a benchmark for the adaptive re-use of historic buildings in Moscow, delivering 60,000m² of office space, 60 luxury apartments, a boutique hotel, restaurant, and the renovated Stanislavsky Theatre, which staged the first production of Chekov’s play, The Cherry Orchard, in 1903. The practice’s landscape design, highly praised by Moscow’s Mayor, was the first in the city to turn a backland site into a biodiverse public realm.
