Newly opened on Monday 19th August, Sydney Metro City line is welcoming passengers to a fast, efficient, automated metro rail system that will transform movement and connectivity across this great world city. This marks a historic milestone for Sydney and celebration for Sydney Metro, Australia’s largest infrastructure project.
John McAslan + Partners designed Waterloo Station and collaborated with Woods Bagot on the Sydney Metro Central upgrade, both on the Sydney Metro City line.
The design for the new Northern Concourse and historic building transformations at Central has given this once-cramped landmark station a generous new heart. Merging old and new, it's the southern sibling to our remodelling of London’s King’s Cross.
Close to Central, our design for Waterloo Station has been conceived as a generous new Metro hub and catalyst for inner-city regeneration. The Indigenous culture of the area has been critical in informing our concept and is evidenced throughout our design approach.
It has been a privilege to contribute to projects of such significance and legacy for Sydney. We thank the many people we have worked with over the last seven years on Sydney Metro to deliver civic infrastructure of the highest ambition and quality.
