The newly inaugurated Sydney Metro Waterloo Station, designed by John McAslan and Partners, is a striking testament to the rich tapestry of Waterloo’s diverse history, including its First Nations and industrial heritage. Officially opened on 19 August 2024, this three-storey station is an integral part of the Sydney Metro City line, servicing high-frequency, driverless trains arriving every four minutes during peak times.
Director Troy Uleman emphasises that the station’s design embodies a deep connection to place, echoing the layered heritage of Waterloo. The narrative begins at the platform level, where ancient traditions meet contemporary infrastructure, and unfolds through the street-level reflections of Waterloo’s evolving identity.
