ORIGARDEN, by John McAslan + Partners

The Big Egg Hunt, organized by Elephant Family and Clarence Court, transforms London into a vibrant art trail, showcasing over 200 giant egg sculptures. Artists, designers, and architects have participated to raise funds for conservation and children’s charities. Among the standout contributions is Origarden by John McAslan + Partners, displayed on Sloane Street. Blending architectural precision with organic inspiration, Origarden resembles a folded paper form encasing a miniature green space, echoing themes of rebirth and sustainability. Its design celebrates the harmony between nature and the built environment, drawing attention and praise for its elegance and thought-provoking concept within this citywide public art event.

Design Description
Inspired by the newly transformed Sloane Street Public Realm project, where JMP served as lead designer, this piece draws from the lush beauty of Cadogan Place Gardens. The design intertwines the vibrancy of a botanical garden with the historic charm of Sloane Street’s 300-year-old mulberry trees, creating a rich visual narrative.
The egg’s surface becomes a dynamic canvas, where Cristina Clementel’s bold, layered colours capture the depth of plant life – from the understorey to the tree canopy – while Paolo Longo’s tessellated pattern introduces a striking three-dimensional effect. The faceted structure transforms the painted garden into a living, shifting composition – a seamless fusion of fluid artistry and sculptural geometry.
