Msheireb Mosque
Doha, Qatar. 2017
The Mosque is set in a colonnaded courtyard with a central water rill, close to the main Al Bahara Square in the 30ha Msheireb Downtown Doha development. Arguably the most precisely ordered fusion of Islamic and Modernist architecture in the Msheireb, the Mosque’s rectilinear plan, cuboid volumes, and restrained but elegant elevational modelling recall the pure lines of Josef Hoffmann’s pre-1918 architecture, intensifying the atmospheres created by the Islamic arrangement of thresholds as well as the beautifully complex geometric patterning of surfaces, screens, and falls of light within the interior volumes.
