John McAslan + Partners, jointly with Australian practice Woods Bagot, has designed the new Metro station and transformation of Sydney’s iconic Central Station, as part of the new A$20bn citywide Metro system. John discusses the complexities and considerations for the planned development over Sydney Central’s rail yards as part of the new Tech Central precinct.
“It can’t be led by development needs alone, it has to be what is needed, what affordable housing needs there must be, needs for cultural activation,” Mr McAslan said. “There need to be all sorts of mixed uses, which will turn it into a proper place rather than just another office park.”
