Millbank Tower
London, UK. 2018
John McAslan + Partners was commissioned to transform the 33-storey, Grade II listed Millbank Tower complex for high-end residential use, creating 206 apartments, a 5-star hotel, and a distinctive landscaped garden. The tower, designed originally by Festival of Britain architect Ronald Ward in 1963, will gain facilities including a sky bar with river views on the top floor, a café on the third floor, a gym, health spa, and a key cultural element – the housing of the British Film Institute in the original ‘prow’ of the building. The complete replacement of the stainless steel and glass facades will be detailed to match the original 1963 materials and profiles, but with significantly enhanced environmental performance.
